A permanent home for our bands
We’re working with the Kirkcaldy Gaming Society to give the Glebe Centre a sustainable future as part of a community asset transfer. This is a very exciting project for the band which will allow us to take ownership of and breathe new life into a historic Kirkcaldy property.
You can help us by completing our community consultation survey which can be accessed here, letting us know your thoughts and giving support to the project.
There are also some FAQ’s below but if you have any have questions or can offer any support through the community asset transfer process please get in touch at info@dysartband.co.uk
The Future of the Glebe Centre – FAQs
❓ What is this all about?
The Dysart Colliery Silver Band and Kirkcaldy Gaming Society are working together to take on the Glebe Centre through a Community Asset Transfer (CAT) from Fife Council.
Our goal is to preserve this important local space and give it a new lease of life as a shared home for music, gaming, and small community events.
❓ What is a Community Asset Transfer?
A Community Asset Transfer allows local groups to take on public buildings and run them for the benefit of the community. It’s supported by the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015 and helps protect important community spaces from being lost or sold off.
❓ Who will use the building?
If the transfer goes ahead:
- The Dysart Band will use part of the building as their permanent rehearsal and storage base.
- The Gaming Society will have use of some of the space for regular gaming and social events giving them a permanent home as well .
- There will still be some availability for community meetings, polling stations, and small group activities where space allows.
❓ Is the building being sold?
Not yet. This is a proposal to transfer ownership from Fife Council to the Band as a registered charity under agreed conditions. The council requires community consultation and a detailed business case before making any decisions.
❓ What happens next?
We’re currently gathering feedback to show that the community supports the project. Your input will help us shape how the building is used and demonstrate that the Glebe Centre still matters to the people of Kirkcaldy.
If the CAT is successful, we’ll be able to carry out much-needed upgrades and keep the building available for public benefit.
This flyer has been delivered to homes near the Glebe Centre. If you haven’t seen it in print, feel free to read it here.
